Attendance

Hamworthy Park Junior School is committed to providing a full and efficient educational experience to all our pupils. In order to achieve this, good school attendance is essential. All staff communicate to pupils that their contribution in school is valued; furthermore, all staff endeavour to make school a fruitful and enjoyable place to be so that a positive attitude to school and learning is fostered.

We take pride in our school's attendance, and in recent years we have also been highlighted by the Borough of Poole and Ofsted for our effective processes and procedures.  We review attendance on a half-termly basis and regularly reward children for good attendance.

Staff do all they can to ensure maximum attendance for all pupils.  Any problems that impede full attendance are identified and addressed as a priority.  Staff actively promote and encourage good attendance for all pupils.  In order for our pupils to reach their full potential we aim for every child to have attendance of 97% and above; our aspiration is for a large proportion of children in school achieving the ultimate of 100% attendance.

Good attendance is celebrated in a variety of ways; through assemblies, when general attendance figures are shared, so that children can see class level and year group level, as well as statistics for the whole school.  We regularly publish our attendance figures via our newsletters, so that the whole school community is fully informed of our attendance data.

For further information about our school's attendance Policy and Procedure please see our Attendance Policy and Procedures document located under the Policies section of this website.

Leave of Absence

We would like to draw your attention to regulations by the Department of Education in relation to school attendance. In summary, Headteachers cannot grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Any request for absence should be made via the Absence in Term Time Form, which can be collected from the school office. In the form you should detail the reason for the absence during term time and the form should be returned to the school office as soon as possible. You will be notified in writing of any decision made.

Please note that if any child is taken out of school during term time, and the leave of absence is not granted, their absence will be deemed as unauthorised and it may result in a fine being issued.

If at any time you are concerned about your child's attendance, please contact :
