PE and sport news – October 2019

It’s been a fantastic month for all things PE and Sport at HPJS. Here’s everything that happened during October.

03/10/19 – Year 3/4 Football Tournament

On Wednesday 3rd October we hosted our first football tournament of the Autumn term. Our two HPJS teams were joined by teams from Hillbourne Primary, Haymoor Junior and Livingstone Road Junior to take part in a friendly football tournament. With the music blaring, all children really enjoyed themselves and played some excellent football. Well done to our Y6 Sports Leaders, you did a great job managing both teams. Thank you Carter Y11 Sports students for referring all the matches and to all parents and carers for coming along to support.

04/10/19 – Year 4 Dorset Cricket Roadshow

After a fantastic Summer of Cricket and Year 3’s turn the other week, it was time for Year 4 to be treated to Cricket taster sessions from Dorset Cricket. Just like Year 3, all year 4 children enjoyed taking part in lots of fun cricket games and activities. If your child would like to play cricket more often, Dorset Cricket are running a Street Cricket Club at Carter Community School on Friday evenings from 5-6pm and it is completely FREE. Please contact james.mitchell@dorsetcricketboard.co.uk or see the picture for more details. Thank you again Andy Kent and James Mitchell from Dorset Cricket Board.

09/10/19 – Year 5/6 Girls Football v Oakdale

Wednesday saw our first match of a brand new Girls football league. The girls travelled to Oakdale and competed well in heavy rains while managing to secure the win. There were many fabulous moments of skills and determination from both teams! Well done to all girls involved! Thank you to Oakdale for hosting.

18/10/19 – Y5 Sports Leaders’ Training

On Friday 18th October, some Year 5 Sports Leaders went to Poole High and took part in a day of Sports Leaders training. It was a brilliant day. All children impressed Mr Paterson with their leadership skills and their passion for all things active. We can’t wait to see their ideas for getting more children active taking place at HPJS. Well done everyone!

18/10/19 – Y5/6 Girls Football v Longfleet

The girls competed against Longfleet in their 2nd league game. After a tightly fought first half, against a very strong Longfleet team, the team upped their performances in the second half and managed to record their 2nd win of the season. Great effort girls!

21/10/19 – Y5/6 Boys Football v Upton Juniors

The Year 5/6 Boys football team faced Upton Juniors in their first league match of year. They were competing in the same competition which saw HPJS reach the semi-finals of last year. In a much changed line-up from last year, the boys showed good effort against a strong Upton Juniors team. In the second half, HPJS reacted brilliantly and showed great decision making, skill and teamwork. They narrowly missed out on securing the win and ended up losing the game. Good effort from all of the team! We’re excited for our next league game soon.

22/10/19 – Y5/6 Girls Football v Hillbourne Primary

After getting a win against a strong Longfleet opposition, the girls played against Hillbourne Primary at home. Both teams should be really proud of their efforts and attitudes throughout this game. Hamworthy won the game which makes it three wins out of three. Great effort girls!

23/10/19 – Y5/6 Girls Football Tournament

On Wednesday 23rd October, HPJS hosted our second football tournament of the year. This tournament involved three other schools with the overall 1st place team qualifying for the County Finals. In this 7-a-side competition, the girls won 2 games and drew the other. The final standings between 1st and 2nd place came down to goal difference. HPJS just had a better goal difference which meant they secured first place and have qualified for the County Finals. Well done to all teams involved – there was some fantastic football played!
